Description

Come for the day or make it a weekend! On May 1-3, join the Georgia Conservancy for our first-ever Augusta Waterways Paddling Adventure. The weekend paddle series will be hosted with the help of our partners at the Savannah Riverkeeper, Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, and the Georgia Trail Summit. During the weekend, paddlers will have the chance to experience Augusta’s two famous waterways - the Augusta Canal and the Savannah River.

“Augusta Canal is a National Heritage Area, a place designated by the U.S. Congress that best represents an important theme in American history. Augusta Canal tells the story of the Industrial Revolution in the American South. Built-in 1845 to harness the water and power of the Savannah River, this canal brought textile and other manufacturing to the region in the era before, during and after the American Civil War. Augusta Canal is the oldest continuously operating hydropower canal in the United States."

ON Saturday we will paddle the Savannah River. On Sunday, we will join the Georgia River Network and will paddle the 7-mile canal through the locks, with a guest speaker from our Sustainable Growth team, and allowing participants of the Georgia Trail Summit to complete their mobile workshop for continuing education credits.

You will become a steward of Georgia’s natural resources on this beginner-friendly trip that is open for families or anyone looking for a beautiful spring day on the water and learning more about Georgia’s rich and diverse history.
